R. Kelly Accuser Breaks Silence, Says Her ‘Biggest Regret’ Is Not Telling The Truth’ About Being The 14-Year-Old Featured In His Leaked S3x Tape
Another one of R. Kelly’s accusers is speaking out.
Reshona Landfair, the woman long identified only as “Jane Doe” in court records related to one of #RKelly’s most notorious cases, is publicly telling her story for the first time ahead of her memoir’s release. Landfair, now 41, says stepping forward has been “very liberating” and that she finally wants to live “in my true skin,” shedding the anonymity of her past. In Who’s Watching Shorty?: Reclaiming Myself from the Shame of R. Kelly’s Abuse, she details how her relationship with the R&B singer began in her youth after being introduced to him through her famous aunt Sparkle, eventually leading to years of alleged grooming and abuse.
Landfair says her aunt first suggested she ask Kelly to be her godfather, a moment that “is the start of him entering into my life in a different way” than a casual studio acquaintance. She alleges that inappropriate touching began when she was about 13 and grew worse over time, and that when she learned a s3x tape filmed when she was 14 had been leaked nationally, she felt shocked and betrayed. “I was empty. I was very hollow inside. I was very confused,” she recalled of hearing about the tape’s circulation.
Her memoir also revisits the impact of past decisions, including testifying in a 2008 grand jury that the girl in the video was not her, something she now calls “one of [her] biggest regrets.” Landfair says that watching the 2019 #Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly was a turning point, bringing “the spirit of conviction” that drove her to speak the truth. “Somehow, I felt responsible that he was able to hurt so many more people,” she said, explaining why she came forward after years of silence.
