Queen Latifah to Star in New Lee Daniels Pilot + Nas Teams Up With Erykah Badu For New Film
Fresh off of snagging an impressive role in The Wiz Live!, Queen Latifah is returning to TV. The Oscar nominated actress is starring in Lee Daniels’ untitled girl group pilot, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
Reportedly, the project is written, created and directed by Daniels, centering on three young women who form a girl group with hopes of making it big in the industry, and the choices they face along the way to success and stardom. The outlet reports:
Queen Latifah will play Carlotta, the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon who boasts an amazing voice and becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls — even though she doesn’t approve of their musical aspirations. After a nationwide search, newcomers Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady have joined the project as the members of the group.
