(EXCLUSIVE) Chris Tucker Reaches Settlement w/ Ex Employee in $250K Legal Battle Where He Accused Man of Blackmail
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Chris Tucker has reached a settlement in the legal battle with his former employee who accused the actor of screwing him out of $66K and the comedian blasted the suit saying it was nothing more than a blackmail attempt, with both sides signing a private agreement which closed the case.
A man named Terry Hodges filed suit against Chris claiming he did a ton of work – starting in 2008 – for Tucker and his recent Netflix special — editing, writing, acting and producing – and hasn’t been paid in years.
Hodges claimed in his lawsuit that he racked up $66K in fees, traveling to Philly, L.A. and Atlanta and had not received a paycheck regularly since 2011. Further, he accused Tucker of lying about having plans to list him as co-producer for the Netflix special. He sued for unspecified damages for the unpaid work he did for the comedian.
Tucker responded, stating he had consulted with the man in regards to his special and had him warm up the audience/introduce him to the crowd but he was NEVER hired to write, edit, produce or act for the comedy special.
Tucker denied all the allegations in the complaint and said the man had been paid in full for his work. He demanded the lawsuit be thrown out.
Tucker also filed a counter-suit against Hodges demanding more than $250K from the man for damages he caused him.
Tucker explained that the two entered into a deal which stated Hodges would warm up the audience and introduce the comedian at his shows. He said during their time working together, Hodges was exposed to private and confidential information about Tucker. He claimed he had the man sign a non-disclosure agreement while working with him.
The comedian said Hodges threatened to release private information about Tucker to the public which included his personal and business affairs. He claims the man tried to demand huge sums of cash or he would publicly embarrass and humiliate him.
Tucker said to make matters worse, he had loaned Hodges lots of cash over the years and he is actually the one who owes him money — not the other way around. He claims at the moment he owes him a total of $37K.
The comedian sued his ex-employee for in excess of $250K in damages plus the $37K owed to him for loans he handed out.
Then on January 22nd, docs were filed in the legal battle stating Tucker and Hodges attended a meditation hearing on the 21st in an attempt to resolve all their claims against each other.
According to the filing, Tucker and his former employee were able to hash out their issues and come to a full settlement in the case. Per their agreement all claims will be dismissed against each other and the terms of the deal will remain confidential.
