Nicki Minaj Doesn’t Want Meek Mill To Refer To Her As His Fiancee + Her Obsession With Jada Pinkett-Smith

Entertainment power house, 33-year-old Trinidad-born, Queens-raised Nicki Minaj is the most successful female rapper in history and in 2015 was Forbes’ ninth highest earning rapper in the world, but she has many talents. But according to Minaj, she’s just getting started. In a recent interview with Nyon, she gives readers insight on her relationship with Meek Mill , her role in the upcoming movie “Barbershop: The Next Cut” and her upcoming television show about her childhood. Jada Pinkett Smith

On her early acting days in high school:

At that time I was obsessed with Jada Pinkett [Smith]—I wanted to be Jada and Halle [Berry] mixed. Now I’m going back to those desires.

On being a boss:

Really being a boss is all about adding to your résumé, I’ve always been interested in business, and I’ve always been a businesswoman, before I had $10 to my name.

On the girl she hand picked to play her on her upcoming television show:

I’ve never seen a little girl rapping on scripted TV. Older people are going to respect her as a little rapstress.

On why her clothing line is in K-Mart Stores:

I was embarrassed to wear low-priced things, so it was important for me to make my fans feel like, ’You may not have all the money right now, but you better walk with your head held high and be confident, be proud of what you’re wearing, because you make the clothes.’

On why it’s taken so long to release new music:

I needed time to hear myself think again, because where I left off with The Pinkprint was a little bit emotionally unstable. I wanted to take a moment to just live my life, enjoy my life, have fun, and go out. I think that’s very important before you start writing again. It’s a spiritual experience for the people who are hearing the music, so I’m trying to be very careful of what mental space I’m in while I’m creating it. Now, I want my happiness to be reflected in the new stuff.

On what she told the judge on boyfriend Meek’s behalf:

He’s not perfect, but I can’t believe how much he’s changed.  He doesn’t have a lot of structure. He can be irresponsible. Since I’ve come into his life, I think I’ve been working on that a little bit. He’s just getting accustomed to being an adult.

On when she and Meek will get married:

I’m not engaged yet. He said that my third ring would be my engagement ring. But sometimes he calls me his fiancée, and I’m always trying to stop him, like, ‘Nope! I do not have that third ring yet!’ We’re just taking it one step at a time. And, you know, if that happens, if I get married, then I’ll have a child, and that’ll be fun, because I can’t wait to hold my baby.
When he and I were just friends, he would always say, ‘you remind me of my mother, and I like that because you’re like a dude. You’re tough like a guy and you talk like a dude.’ So I always got the sense that me being tough and bossy was a turn-on for him. And it’s important for me to keep my voice. Being in a relationship shouldn’t mean that you lose your voice. Being in a relationship should mean that you’ve met a secure-enough man to allow you, in a sense, to remain a queen.

On her character Draya, In Barbershop: The Next Cut:

I wanted there to be a little bit of depth to Draya, I didn’t want her just to be, you know, an Instagram thot;  I wanted her to have some sort of purpose and meaning.”

On why she cut twerking out of her performance in the film:

Not every sexy woman is out here twerking all damn day.

On what she is proud of right now in her career: 

I want people to know that I have a brain. I want people to know, when they see my name, that I’m fully part of it, I’m fully passionate about it, I’m working behind the scenes on it, and that people take my opinion seriously.

On when she will return to music:

Musically, I feel very fulfilled, and now I can start tapping into my acting world, where it’s about passion and not about the money, It’s wanting to be what I set out to be when I was in high school: an actress.
