Barack Obama Condemns Donald Trump & Republican Party, Pushes People To Vote
Former President, Barack Obama is sending directing criticism towards his successor, Donald Trump and fellow Republicans in Congress. During a speech at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Friday, Obama thoroughly expressed his disapproval over the current administration, while also encouraging his audience how to change the current climate within the Government by voting. Although politicians are suggesting Obama is trying to relish in his days as president, the Chicago native suggests,
It did not start with Donald Trump, he is a symptom, not the cause. He is just capitalizing on resentment that politicians have been fanning for years. A fear, an anger that is rooted in our past but is also borne in our enormous upheavals that have taken place in your brief lifetimes.
Obama also spoke to Trump disrespecting the Department of Justice and the FBI via Twitter,
It should not be Democratic or Republican, it should not be partisan to say that we don’t pressure the Department of Justice or the FBI to use the criminal justice system as a cudgel to punish our political opponents. Or to explicitly call for the attorney general to protect members of own party from prosecution because elections happen to be coming up. I am not making that up. That is not hypothetical.

Donald Trump
Although Obama reportedly only mentioned Trump’s twice during the speech, he added a list of critiques to the Republican party, as well. He said,
The politics of resentment and paranoia has unfortunately found a home in the Republican Party.
He then questioned the morals and values he thought, the Republican Party once had,
What happened to the Republican Party? Its central organizing principle in foreign policy was the fight against communism and now they are cozying up to the former head of the KGB, actively blocking legislation that would defend our elections from Russia attack. What happened?

As he speaks to the younger audience, he offers a change in mindset on the aspect of voting. He encourages,
Just a glance at recent headlines should tell you that this moment really is different, the stakes really are higher, the consequences of any of us sitting on the sidelines are more dire.
He added,
And if you thought elections don’t matter, I hope these last two years have corrected the impression.
Trump has responded to Obama’s remarks. During a speech in North Dakota, he says,
I watched it, but I fell asleep. I’ve found he’s very good for sleeping.
