EXCLUSIVE: Lil Wayne – Young Money Wants Out of Court Battle Over Drake’s Music Profits
theJasmineBRAND exclusively reports, Lil Wayne’s label wants to be released from a lawsuit over Drake’s music money.
According to court documents, Aspire Music Group, run by Cortez Bryant, does not believe they owe Young Money any money from Canadian royalties.
Aspire Music Group (run by Wayne’s manager Bryant) and Young Money (run by Lil Wayne) are suing each other over Drake’s royalties and recently specifically his Canada music profits.
Lil Wayne’s label claimed Aspire was not paying them their cut of the overseas profits and not giving them accounting for the sales.
Young Money wanted the court to order they get a one-third cut of the net profits of Drake’s Canada cash.
In newly filed docs, it was revealed that Aspire informed Young Money they don’t believe YM is owed any percentage of the Canada royalties.
Young Money claims in a separate new court filing that any money Aspire claims to be owed in their original lawsuit should be offset by money they have already been paid or were paid by Young Empire Music Group, a separate company that believes they are owed a cut of Drake’s profits too.
Lil Wayne’s label says the claims against Young Money are barred because key execs and Drake consented to them.
Given that Drake pulled in a reported $94 million in 2017, it makes sense why everyone is fighting hard for a cut.
The nasty legal battle doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon.
