Octavia Spencer Says LeBron James Helped Her Negotiate Equal Pay In Netflix Deal
Octavia Spencer revealed NBA player transforming media mogul LeBron James helped her secure a bag. During the Sundance Film Festival, Spencer shared James helped her achieve fair compensation for their upcoming Netflix series about Madam C.J. Walker.
I have to say, when I was negotiating my deal for ‘Madam C.J.,’ LeBron James had to intervene. So we need all our male counterparts to be in the fight with us.
James is producing the autobiography limited series through his production company, SpringHill Entertainment. The series was originally ordered in Aug. 2017. James said about the project,
I am really proud of this project and that SpringHill will be partnering with Octavia to tell this important story. Every American should all know the story of Madam C.J. Walker. She was an innovator, entrepreneur, social activist, and total game changer whose story has been left out of the history books. I hope this project lives up to her legacy with a story that will educate and inspire.
Spencer is set to star in the series based on the “On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker,” biography written about America’s first black millionaire penned by her great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles, who will also serve as a consultant on the series.
