Floyd Mayweather Says He Doesn’t Care About Gucci Boycott, “Racism Exists, But That’s Not Gonna Stop My Drive”
While some of the biggest names in black Hollywood are flexing their consumer muscles to boycott luxury retailer Gucci, after the brand’s marketing of a seemingly racist sweater, there is one wealthy black celebrity who wants no part of it—president of The Money Team, Floyd Mayweather.
The majority of the black community was outraged when high-end luxury brand Gucci initially had a sweater on sale that closely resembled blackface.
After pulling the item (from stores and online) and issuing a public apology, several black celebrities, including T.I., Russell Simmons and Spike Lee, were still unsatisfied and vowed to boycott Gucci to hit them where it hurts financially.
Well, boxer Floyd Mayweather doesn’t care about boycotting Gucci and let everyone know, as he was recently caught by cameras and gave his opinion, while continuing to drop thousands on the brand.
Mayweather and his crew were shopping at Gucci in Beverly Hills and he expressed that he doesn’t follow the crowd. He said,
“I’m not no follower, I do what the f*ck I wanna do.”
When informed that T.I., Lee and others would be upset and disappointed in him for shopping at Gucci, Mayweather didn’t hold back:
“You said they’re gonna be upset with me? I love it, I love it, I love it. See, the thing is this, I live for myself. I do what I want to do. “I’m not a follower. You know when everybody else they say, ‘Everybody gonna boycott?’ I say guess what, this boy gonna get on a yacht and live life.”
He wasn’t done though, and added in a few comments about current racism as well:
“We all know racism still exists but that’s not gonna stop my drive. I’ve got friends from all walks of life and to me of course, black lives matter first … but my thing is this, I’m gonna continue to go out there live life and be happy. Half of the people that’s on social media saying, ‘Don’t wear this, don’t wear that,’ I ain’t never seen none of them supporting The Money Team.”
Reportedly, after Mayweather and his entourage left Gucci, they headed over to Neiman Marcus where the dropped over $500K.
