Jordan Peele’s “Us” Makes History, Sets U.S. Record For Biggest Opening Of An Original Horror Movie Ever
Jordan Peele’s “Us” is smashing the box office and making history. The horror film made huge numbers in its first weekend, setting a US record for the biggest opening of an original horror movie ever.
The movie surpassed John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place, generating a hugely impressive $70 million across North America.
It’s also become the biggest debut for an original R-rated film since Ted in 2012.
The film outstripped the early figures for Peele’s directorial debut Get Out, which launched with $33 million back in 2017.
Worldwide, the movie has already made $86.7 million. Universal and Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions spent only $20 million to make the movie.
The film was written and directed by Peele and starred Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Elisabeth Moss, and Tim Heidecker, and followed a family who are confronted by a group of doppelgängers.
