The Weeknd Sued for Stealing Parts of His Song “A Lonely Night”

The “star boy” is being sued for a song on his album of the same title. A British songwriting trio is taking The Weeknd (real name, Abel Tesfaye) to court over his song “A Lonely Night.” According to reports,  William Smith, Brian Clover and Scott McCulloch filed a complaint with the Central District of California, claiming that “A Lonely Night” illegally features remnants of their 2004 song, “I Need Love.”

Reportedly, court documents show that William, Brian, and Scott filed the initial complaint about the song back in 2016. However, plaintiffs insisted that the case wouldn’t stand. The trio is seeking “unspecified damages.”

This isn’t The Weeknd’s first time being sued for intellectual property. Last year, he fought a lawsuit over the right to trademark “Starboy.” He was also accused of stealing a comic book writer’s story for a potential Marvel superhero story for his own gain.
