Marshawn Lynch Offered $5k For 2 Minute Interview, Requested He Be Paid In Quarters

NFL vet Marshawn Lynch attended the Alliance of American Football draft in Las Vegas at the end of 2018. During the draft, Lynch’s cousin, quarterback Josh Johnson was drafted as the overall No. 1 pick by the San Diego Fleet. After the selection, Lynch and Johnson were interviewed. Typically, Lynch is anti-media so he was offered a $5,000 fee.

However, the former Raiders running back didn’t want to accept a check and instead, the 5-time NFL Pro Bowler asked to be paid in quarters. The AAF agreed to pay Lynch in quarters. According to reports, the 20,000 quarters were delivered to Lynch’s room while in Las Vegas.

But when a check was presented to Lynch, he asked that his money be delivered instead in quarters—which AAF co-founder Charlie Ebersol took seriously. In the end, 20,000 quarters were delivered to Lynch’s room and the interview apparently took place.

Here is a clip of the video:

Ironically, the league went bankrupt in the coming weeks following the end of their season. The league ceased operations April 2 of this year and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on April 17.

As previously reported, Lynch is reportedly set to make his second retirement announcement following reports of Raiders head coach, Jon Gruden interests in a younger running back from the upcoming NFL draft.

“After two seasons playing for his hometown Oakland Raiders, Marshawn Lynch is not planning to play football again.”

NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirms, adding coach Gruden still loves the 5-time NFL Pro Bowler, but is currently set on moving on with a younger RB.

“The Raiders love Marshawn Lynch, but Jon Gruden had moved on and made it clear. They plan to take a RB early. John Jacobs in the 20s is a possible target for Oakland.”

As of now, Lynch has not announced any plans to retire again. In his first year with the Raiders, Lynch remained productive generating 891 yards on 207 carries scoring seven TDs. Last season, injuries once again caught up with the aging veteran. He played just six games, earning 376 yards (4.2 average) and three scoring touchdowns. The NFL vet redefined his career and power running with the Seattle Seahawks for six seasons during their Super Bowl runs, winning the 2013 Super Bowl.
