LaVar Ball Refers To Son Lonzo As “Damaged Goods” During Heated Exchange Over Big Baller Brand Rebranding

As NBA player, Lonzo Ball makes his move to the Big Easy, joining the New Orleans Pelicans after being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, the Big Baller Brand, which is Ball’s family’s company is looking into making some changes. Although, the founder, whom is the NBA star’s father, LaVar Ball still thinks he knows the way forward. In a video, the Ball family addressed the family’s struggles with the brand, touching on whether the name of the should be changed. When asked by Lonzo, his father seemingly referred to the player as “damaged.” He says,

“When I come out with a name & somebody ask me to change it, that’s like people saying change Lonzo name to Alfonzo on the fact that he been damaged goods for the past 2 years.”

Ball’s “damaged goods” comment is a reference to the large amount of injuries Lonzo has experienced in his first two years in the league. Lonzo has played in only 99 of a possible 164 games through two NBA seasons.

As previously reported, back in March, the NBA star seemingly cut ties with his family brand, The Big Baller Brand, amidst their company co-founder, Alan Foster, misplacing $1.5 million from Ball’s personal and business accounts. The former Lakers star made his own statement with covering up the BBB logo tattooed on his right arm. In the photo, Ball’s triple B’s were made into two black and red dice next to his, “Born 2 Ball,” tattoo.

He later posted a cryptic photo on social media with his former Lakers jersey added to the rafters next to Lakers legend, Kobe Bryant. Ball wrote,

“Moving on to bigger and better.”

Lonzo, along with a few pieces to the Lakers young core including Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart, were all traded to the Pelicans for 3-time NBA All-Star, Anthony Davis. After the blockbuster trade, LaVar commented on his son being traded from the Lakers while at the Drew League. Ball says,

“I guarantee, like I say again, it will be the worst move the Lakers ever did in their life and they will never win another championship. Guarantee it.”
