Wesley Snipes Doesn’t Agree With ‘New Jack City’ Remake: I Think Some Things Should Be Left Alone
New Jack City will have to find another Nino Brown for its remake. The movie, which was originally released in 1991, is one of the latest to jump on the train of all things remakes and reboots. But its main character, Wesley Snipes, who played drug lord Nino Brown, said he has zero plans to be a part of the new installment that has been described as a sequel. In fact, he suggested it shouldn’t be happening at all.
“I’m not associated with it, you know. I have nothing to do with it at all. I think some things should be left alone…if it worked at the time under the circumstances. And the story was built around things that are current. I don’t particularly like the idea of recreating the drug culture. For what? […] I don’t know. They actually talked to me about doing it and I told them no. If I had a dime for every time I’ve said no. It’s a done deal, it’s a wrap.”
For now, Snipes is set to star in Netflix’s Dolamite Is My Name alongside Eddie Murphy.
Interestingly enough, while he’s steering clear of the forthcoming New Jack City remake, he’s been cast in the Coming To America sequel, which will also star Murphy, who will reprise his role as Prince Akeem of Zamunda. Snipes is set to play a new character that will be introduced, General Izzi, who rules a nearby nation.
