Amy Cooper Is Facing Charges After She Called The Cops On A Black Man Who Was Bird-Watching
Amy Cooper, the woman some have dubbed as “Central Park Karen” will be prosecuted for a false report. On Monday (July 6), Manhattan D.A. Cy Vance Jr. announced that a prosecution was in the works against Amy Cooper for “Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree.”
He added,
“I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reporting to contact our Office. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable.”
It was previously reported (May 26) that Amy Cooper called the police on Christian Cooper, the senior biomedical editor at Health Science Communication, New York’s Central Park. According to Christian Cooper, Amy was reportedly walking her dog without his leash, which is against the park’s rules. After what seemed to be a disagreement over the park’s rules, Amy called the cops on Christian Cooper.
His sister, Melody Cooper, tweeted about the incident afterward with the caption,
“Oh, when Karens take a walk with their dogs off leash in the famous Bramble in NY’s Central Park, where it is clearly posted on signs that dogs MUST be leashed at all times, and someone like my brother (an avid birder) politely asks her to put her dog on the leash.”

In the video, Amy can be heard lying to New York police about the nature of the incident between her and Christian Cooper. Amy said:
“I’m going to tell them there’s an African-American man threatening my life…I’m sorry, I’m in the Ramble, and there’s a man, African American, with a bicycle helmet. He is recording me, and threatening me and my dog…I’m sorry I can’t hear you. I’m being threatened by a man in The Ramble. Please send the cops immediately.”
After the video went viral, Amy received backlash from many on social media.

Her employer, Franklin Templeton, immediately held her accountable for her actions. The firm’s Twitter statement read:
“We take these matters very seriously, and we do not condone racism of any kind. While we are in the process of investigating the situation, the employee involved has been put on administrative leave.”

Now, Amy will have to prepare for her issued court date, which is set for October 2020. If convicted, she can face a maximum sentence of up to 1 year in jail.
