Rep. John Lewis’ Initial Funeral Details Released-Tributes In Multiple Locations

Plans are underway for the final tributes to civil rights icon and U.S. Rep. John Lewis, who sadly passed away on July 17.  Though funeral announcements will be made this Friday for Atlanta, reportedly, mourners will have the opportunity to pay respect in multiple places, including Troy, Alabama where he grew up.

In addition to a stop in Troy, Lewis‘ casket may also stop in Selma where Lewis and Hosea Williams led the 1965 “Bloody Sunday” march that led to the passage of a groundbreaking voting rights law.

According to reports, organizers are also looking at the US Capitol in Washington D.C., where Lewis was a member of Congress for nearly 34 years.

Initial plans reveal that Congressman Lewis’s public funeral is expected to take place in Atlanta, at Ebenezer Baptist Church where Congressman Lewis was a member, and it’s where his wife Lillian was eulogized in 2013.

Ebenezer Baptist Church is also where Lewis‘ mentor, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was pastor when he was murdered in 1968.
