Nas Says He Wouldn’t Do A Verzuz Battle: That’s Not What I’m Trying To Do
Nas is back with a new album, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be showing off his 20 biggest hits in a Verzuz battle.
Nas, whose real name is Nasir Jones, said he simply enjoys watching the viral challenges instead of being a part of one.
He told Zane Lowe of Apple Music:
“I talked to the Swizz [Beatz], I’m really proud of what he’s built with Verzuz. And I’m more of a fan to know who’s going to be next, so I’m calling Swizz, like ‘Who you got? Who’s next?’ I’m really a fan. I really want to know. And I think he knows that’s not what I’m trying to do, but I like to know who’s coming next.”
Nas’s latest album King’s Disease was released on August 21st, making it the 13th studio album for the 47-year-old. He also released the debut single “Ultra Black.”
Meanwhile, all eyes are on Monica and Brandy as they were announced as the latest duo to take part in a Verzuz. Their feature will be on Aug. 31.

Monica previously said she would only do a Verzuz with Brandy under one condition.
“The reality is people have put us against each other for 20 something years. I think “The Boy is Mine” is such a phenomenal record because we’re polar opposites and I think that’s dope, and she’s one of the greatest artists of our time as well so could we do a celebration or something of that sort? That would be the only thing that would make sense to me because I’ve been trying to tell people for about 25 years, you can like both. You gonna turn this into 1998 all over again and I have no interest in that.”
If there’s a way to do a real celebration then that would be dope because Teddy [Riley] and Babyface were really celebrating each other. They knew each others records and they gave each other love the whole time and I think thats what made it so dope. After a while a was a little scared watching Sean [Garrett] and The Dream like, hey fellas are we serious here? It just got a little bit intense and those are two producers that I absolutely adore. So for me it would have to be a celebratory form of it, it would have to be I don’t see it in any other way.”
