Barack Obama Reportedly Gave LeBron James & NBA Players Advice Amid Boycott

The NBA and other major sports leagues took part in an unprecedented boycott earlier this week in protest of social injustice after a police-involved shooting against Jacob Blake. 

According to new reports, former President Barack Obama was a part of the conversation in helping LeBron James and the NBA decide whether they would take the court again this season. He reportedly spoke with a collective of NBA stars, including LeBron James, ahead of them ending the boycott.

LeBron James is said to have contacted Barack Obama after the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers initially voted to boycott the remainder of the NBA playoffs. But Barack Obama reportedly encouraged James and the players (like Chris Paul who was allegedly on the call) to give details about what they wanted to happen before they finished the season.

The players reportedly discussed potentially creating a player action committee, which Obama would help with.

Ultimately, the teams decided to resume the season under a number of conditions. Some of those conditions included the players launching a social action committee. Team owners will also transform their home courts into voting areas for this November’s presidential election. The league will put out ads telling the general public to cast their vote.

Barack Obama later saluted the teams for their action.

During the boycott, LeBron James demanded change on Twitter.
