Big Sean Reveals His First Advance From Kanye West Was $15,000
As Kanye West’s disdain for the music industry continues, one of the artists on his G.O.O.D. music label, Big Sean, is speaking out about his first advance from the Chicago native.
Kanye West signed Big Sean in 2007, and his first album, Finally Famous, was released in 2011. It included hits like “My Last” featuring Chris Brown, “Dance”, and “Marvin & Chardonnay” featuring Kanye West and Roscoe Dash.
But before he became a famous rapper, he said his advance from Kanye West wasn’t as big as some might think. He told Fat Joe on The Fat Joe Show:
“I wasn’t an artist who had a popping single going or nothing like that. He just signed me straight off of, he heard me rap, and I had nothing going. So yeah, my first advance was bro, I don’t even wanna say the number, but it wasn’t a lot at all.”
Fat Joe then guessed the amount, asking if it was $50,000. Big Sean replied,
“No. My first advance was $15,000 bro… And at a time where I had to…everybody around me was like ‘He’s signed to Kanye.'”

Now, Kanye West has taken issue with the music industry, comparing it to slavery and calling himself Moses on his trek to free musicians from their contracts.

He vowed to give his artists half of the share he had in their masters, and Big Sean appeared to appreciate it. He replied:
“Thank you!!! This would help so much…”
