Trayvon Martin Will Have The Street In Front Of His High School Named After Him
A street in front of the Miami high school Trayvon Martin attended will soon honor him and be renamed ‘Trayvon Martin Avenue.’
Trayvon Martin’s name was added to Northeast 16th Avenue between Ives Dairy Road and Northeast 209th Street. The street leads to Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, where Trayvon Martin attended at the time he was fatally shot. New signs are expected to be up shortly.

He was only 17 when he was shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, while walking from a convenience store. He was visiting his father, Tracy Martin, at the time.
George Zimmerman made a call to 911 reporting a “suspicious person” in the neighborhood, with gunshots ringing moments after the call. George Zimmerman did admit that he shot Trayvon Martin but said it was all in self-defense.
Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder in July 2013.

Sybrina Fulton and her son Trayvon Martin
Like George Floyd‘s death, Trayvon Martin’s death was a catapult to a nationwide cry for racial equality, and also inspired his mother Sybrina Fulton to tap into politics and activism, including running for Miami-Dade County Commissioner.
