Chadwick Boseman Filmed ‘Numerous Episodes’ As Black Panther For Upcoming Disney+ Series Ahead Of His Passing
Chadwick Boseman’s character won’t be replaced in Marvel’s Black Panther sequel, but fans don’t have to say goodbye to T’Challa just yet.
Marvel head Kevin Feige confirmed that Chadwick Boseman is slated to appear as an animated version of Black Panther in Disney+’s upcoming series What If…?
He said during an interview with Emmy Magazine:
“[Boseman] came in about four times and recorded numerous episodes. In hindsight, it’s very moving.”
This comes after confirmation that Black Panther will not be replaced in the sequel. Kevin Feige said at Disney Investor Day Dec. 10th:
“I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family. Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past.”
Marvel exec Victoria Alonso also previously said that he won’t appear in a digital form:
“No. There’s only one Chadwick and he’s not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really.”
Chadwick Boseman passed away in August after a private, four-year battle with colon cancer. He was 43.
