Colin Kaepernick Fans Jump To His Defense After NFL Shares Martin Luther King, Jr. Quote
Ex NFLer and activist Colin Kaepernick is currently trending online after the NFL posted an MLK quote.
The quote was posted on the league’s official Twitter account Monday, (Jan. 18) on the day that the world celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. day.
The account posted a quote from the late Civil Rights legend and wrote:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. #MLKDay“
The tweet was met with a lot of criticism online, considering Colin Kaepernick’s series of peaceful protests, which began on Aug. 14, 2016, is still a national conversation. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback still has no team to play for after the league allegedly blackballed him for kneeling in protest against police brutality during games.
Social media had a lot to say about the tweet:
As previously reported, Colin Kaepernick reportedly received ‘zero interest’ from teams to play in the upcoming NFL season.
While NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted there appeared to be more interest in Colin Kaepernick than there had been in a long time in June 2020, later reports claimed that the interest was “fake”.

Sports journalist Mike Florio wrote that the alleged ‘fake interest’ was sparked after the death of George Floyd, which led to civil unrest.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, there was some ‘fake’ interest expressed immediately after [George] Floyd’s death, seemingly out of guilt. There has been zero interest expressed as to Kaepernick ‘in months.’”
Reports that the NFL wanted to work with Colin Kaepernick circulated upon the league’s announcement of donating $250 million to fight racism. Sources familiar with the league’s program said it would be willing to work with the alleged blackballed former quarterback.
Commissioner Roger Goodell acknowledged that the NFL should have listened to the league’s players earlier with regard to social injustices. The NFL also painted “End racism” and “It takes all of us” in the end zones of every stadium this season. In addition, players chose from the phrases “Stop hate,” “It takes all of us,” “End racism,” and “Black Lives Matter” to be displayed on their helmets and/or team hats.
