Rick Ross Is Accused Of Colorism Over Clip Resurfaced From VH1 Reality Show “Signed”
It looks like Rick Ross is receiving some criticism after a 2017 clip from the VH1 competition show, “Signed” resurfaced. The 44-year-old rapper is now being accused of being colorist and misogynistic. The purpose of the tv show was to discover new Hip Hop and R&B talents who would compete for the chance to be signed to a major record label. The judges for the music competition included rapper Rick Ross, singer/producer, The Dream, and music executive Lenny S.
In the resurfaced clip, contestants Just Brittany and Kaiya are auditioning for the judges, both singing to the instrumental of Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music”. Brittany auditioned first and received positive feedback from all three judges, Lenny S. even saying the audition was the “smartest move of her life “. When it was time for Kaiya to audition, Rick Ross quickly cut her time short saying,
” That wasn’t the best platform for your voice. You have a unique voice. And Brit did sound better than yours.”

Many social media users expressed that Kaiya had a beautiful voice and the only reason why Just Brittany won was because of her lighter skin complexion and sex appeal.
Just Brittany later appeared in season 7 of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta in 2018.
This isn’t the first time Rick Ross has been accused of being misogynistic. In a 2017 interview with The Breakfast Club, Ross was asked why he hasn’t signed a woman to his recored label, Maybach Music Group. His response sparked major controversy. He replied,
“You know, I never did it because I always thought, like, I would end up f**king a female rapper and fucking the business up. I’m so focused on my business. I just, I gotta be honest with you. You know, she looking good. I’m spending so much money on her photo shoots. I gotta f**k a couple times.”
