NBA YoungBoy’s Bond Revoked, Rapper To Stay In Jail Until Trial
NBA YoungBoy won’t be getting out of jail on bond.
While he was initially granted a $540,000 bond in the Central District of California after being arrested on drug and weapons charges recently, a judge has now revoked it.
According to court documents, a magistrate judge in California okayed his release ahead of trial, under the condition that Louisiana would also give the green light, which it did not. Instead, U.S. District Judge Shelly D. Dick of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana pulled his bond and ruled that YoungBoy will stay in custody, stating that he’s violated his probation in the past.
The Louisiana State Attorney also argued that his access to funds made it easy for him to post bond and be released “despite the recommendation of the United States Probation and Pre-Trial Services Department that the defendant presents a risk of danger.”
Court documents read,
“Two factors—Gaulden’s history and characteristics and the nature and seriousness of the danger posed by Gaulden’s release—are closely related. U.S. Probation and Pre-Trial Services provided the Court with sealed, relevant information germane to Gaulden’s characteristics and history, which reflect a pattern of violent behavior stretching back several years. The Court also notes that based on their investigation into Gaulden’s history and background, U.S. Probation and Pre-Trial Services recommended detention. The exhibits offered by the Government, particularly the testimony from Gaulden’s June 2019 state probation revocation proceeding and the U.S. Probation and Pre-Trial Services report, convincingly satisfy the Court that there is a serious risk of danger to the public if Gaulden is released.”
As previously reported, FBI agents arrested rapper NBA YoungBoy (born Kentrell DeSean Gaulden) last month for an outstanding warrant in connection to a Baton Rouge, Louisiana drug bust he was arrested in last September. According to TMZ, police apprehended NBA YoungBoy in Los Angeles, after an on-foot pursuit, with the help of K-9 units. Federal prosecutors allege in documents that NBA YoungBoy had two guns (a .45 pistol and 99 mm handgun) in his possession when he was arrested in Baton Rouge. The city’s police only handed him drug charges at the time. His lawyer denied that any of the weapons found were his.
NBA YoungBoy reportedly isn’t allowed to have firearms because of the felony for aggravated assault on his record. The 9mm was also not registered to him.
He is charged with one count of illegal possession of firearms by a felon, and possession of an unregistered weapon.
