Scottie Pippen Claims Former NBA Coach Phil Jackson Is Racist For Denying Him The Last Shot At 1994 Playoffs
Scottie Pippen recently rehashed some old NBA drama, and he had some things to say about former coach Phil Jackson!
Yesterday (Monday, June 28th), former NBA player Scottie Pippen appeared on The Dan Patrick Show. While there, he revealed that he feels the Chicago Bulls’ former coach, Phil Jackson, harbored racist sentiments. Specifically, in an earlier interview with GQ, Scottie Pippen claimed Phil Jackson‘s decision to not give him the last-second shot in a 1994 playoff game was “a racial move,” and Dan Patrick asked for clarification on what he meant. Dan Patrick inquired:
“By saying a racial move, then you’re calling Phil a racist?”
In response, Scottie Pippen stated:
“I don’t got a problem with that.”
Dan Patrick then outright asked if he thought Phil Jackson is a racist, to which Pippen replied:
“Oh yeah.”
He continued:
“One year without Michael Jordan. Can I get one shot? Like, I’m doing all the dirty work. Why would Toni, who was a rookie, get the last-second shot and you put me out of bounds? That’s what I mean racial.”

For context, at the 1994 playoffs against the Knicks, Phil Jackson pulled Scottie Pippen out at the very end of the game in order to give rookie Toni Kukoc the game-tying final shot. Because Scottie Pippen was largely considered the team’s best player after Michael Jordan, he felt he should’ve been given the last-second shot over Toni Kukoc.
Scottie Pippen then doubled down on his claims after Dan Patrick pointed out that the 1994 playoffs decision didn’t necessarily make Phil Jackson a racist. Pippen said:
“Well, that’s your way of putting it out, and I have my way. I was in the locker room with him. I was in practices with him. You’re looking from afar.”
