Kevin Durant Announces Partnership W/ Weedmaps, Says He Aims To Destigmatize Marijuana Use In The Athletic World
Kevin Durant has a new brand partnership that aligns with his own personal mission!
Yesterday (Thursday, Aug. 19th), Brooklyn Nets athlete Kevin Durant announced he was doing a partnership with Weedmaps. Weedmaps is a popular app that helps people locate various different marijuana dispensaries, compare products, and view available deals.
Specifically, Kevin Durant is partnering with the app with the intention of normalizing and destigmatizing athletes’ use of cannabis. Regarding his goal, the NBA star stated:
“I think it’s far past time to address the stigmas around cannabis that still exist in the sports world as well as globally. This partnership is going to help us continue to normalize those conversations, as well as create content, events, and a lot more through our Boardroom media network. This is just the beginning for us.”
It is worth noting that Kevin Durant did not speak on whether or not he personally uses marijuana, and the NBA still technically has a ban on the substance.
News of Kevin Durant‘s partnership, and his goals to destigmatize marijuana use in athletic circles, comes amid various athletes running into trouble for smoking weed. Most notably, Sha’Carri Richardson was banned from the Tokyo Olympics for testing positive for THC.
