On watching Tyler Perry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, Charlamagne said,
“When I first watched that interview, I wasn’t nowhere near doing real work on myself. But I saw it in real-time, back in the day when he was on Oprah, and I watched him crying and I remember saying to myself, ‘what’s wrong with him,’ because I think the way men process sexual assault is different.”

He continued,
“Like we don’t look at it as sexual assault. We look at it as I was eight getting it poppin’ with an older woman. I literally remember like me and my guys at that age having a conversation about being with older women back then, and none of us processed it as sexual assault.”

He added,
“That’s not something I processed as sexual assault until I was in my late 30s. And then I just understood it more cause you just don’t know what that did to you.”
In 2018, Charlamagne also spoke about his abuse in an episode of TV One’s Uncensored. During the show, the radio host revealed that he thought something was wrong with him because he enjoyed it.
He said,
“I saw Tyler Perry on Oprah crying about a woman in his family who used to molest him and I was like, ‘d*** why is he crying?’ Why is he crying but I enjoy it? So it’s just like one of those things that made me wonder if something was wrong with me.”
