LeToya Luckett Speaks On ‘Greatest Lesson Learned’ Following Split From Destiny’s Child: You Don’t Have To Shrink Yourself To Be Good At Your Role [VIDEO]
Entertainer LeToya Luckett, 41, is opening up about how her confidence was affected following her departure from the R&B girl group “Destiny’s Child,” two decades ago.
LeToya Luckett initially rose to fame in the early 90s as part of the original “Destiny’s Child” lineup during its formative years, alongside Beyoncé, 40, Kelly Rowland, 41, and LaTavia Roberson, 40. However, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson left the popular girl group in 2000 after reportedly having a disagreement with Beyoncé’s father and then manager, Mathew Knowles, 70.

LeToya has previously shared that she was only 18 when she exited “Destiny’s Child” and didn’t know what her next step would be. Thankfully, it seems like the superstar was able to figure everything out. During a recent interview on the “Good Moms Bad Choices” podcast, LeToya was asked about the “greatest lesson” she learned after being a part of such a huge musical group. She shared,
“With a lot of partnerships, we lose ourselves to become one. With DC my role was the soprano or whatever. So…coming out of DC that’s the only thing that I thought I could sing.”
She continued,
“For so long, I felt like I sacrificed myself for the greater good. – It did something to my confidence.”
When asked what advice she would give her younger self LeToya replied,
“I think that would be the one thing I would tell myself is – ‘don’t lose yourself, baby. You still matter.’ You know, ‘Still remain confident in who God created you to be and in the gift that he gave you. You don’t have to shrink yourself to be good at your role.’”
She added that despite the initial drama that followed her split from “Destiny’s Child,” she’s now cool with all her former group members, and “the love is still there.”
