Cardi B Shares Why She Likes To Bring Awareness To Important Causes: I Don’t Get Political In My Music, But I Use The F***K Out Of My Platform
Rap artist Cardi B dedicates her platform to more than just posting pretty pictures.
During a recent interview, Cardi B, 29 shared why and how she intentionally uses her large following to bring awareness to important causes. The “Money” artist has amassed quite the internet audience, with 131 million followers on Instagram and another 22.5 million on Twitter. Not including the millions of views she regularly racks up via YouTube for her music videos and interviews.

While complementing Cardi on creating such a successful following, the interviewer addressed the artist’s power in political activism and social problems. The mother of two replied,
“I don’t really put a lot of political things in my music, but I use the f***k out of my platform,”
She continued,
“You might think that people are not looking, but they are.”

Cardi’s statements are only reinforced by her actions. The musician circulated headlines during the 2020 election for her “controversial” stances on politics and current events. Back in 2021, the “I Like It Like That” rapper stated that she would be reeling back on sharing political views, following her endorsement of then-presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. After one user questioned why she had been silent about world matters as of late, the music artist responded:
“I was tired of getting bullied by the republicans and also getting bashed by the same people I was standing up for.”

However, that hasn’t stopped Cardi from bringing awareness to important situations. Earlier this year, Cardi openly disparaged media outlets that were spreading misinformation around the death of Lauren Smith Fields, as well as the police department investigating the incident. If you recall, Lauren was found deceased after having a Bumble date with a white man she met online.

Additionally, Cardi immediately spoke about the Bronx apartment fire that killed 15 residents earlier this year. She also covered all of the funeral costs for the affected families. Speaking more during the interview about using her platform for these types of causes, the Grammy-Award-winning artist stated:
“A lot of people relate to me and follow me because they want to see how I’m dressed, they want to see my lifestyle,”

She continued:
“I feel like I have a responsibility to also share to them like – hey while you’re here and you’re checking my outfit and checking my music, check out what’s going on over here in this part of the world.”
Cardi B’s full interview is set to air on May 20th on Netflix.
