Deion Sanders Graces Sports Illustrated Cover W/ Some Of His HBCU Football Players
Deion Sanders is definitely doing what he can to help HBCU sports get the attention they deserve!
As previously reported, in 2020, football legend Deion “Prime Time” Sanders, 54, became the head football coach at Jackson State University. The historically black university (HBCU) is a Division I school located in Jackson, Mississippi. Today (June 9) Sports Illustrated revealed that Deion Sanders and a couple of his players, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and five-star cornerback Travis Hunter, will appear on its upcoming cover! They captioned their post,
“A record-setting season, an unprecedented five-star recruit, and a public quarrel with Nick Saban. It’s a new day for Deion Sanders’ Jackson State program, and for HBCUs everywhere”

A video of Deion Sanders revealing the historic cover to his players in his office was uploaded online. In the video, the former NFL player shows off a few of his own Sports Illustrated covers from his professional sports career to Sanders and Hunter. During the heartfelt moment, he said,
“You guys in college, man, got a darn cover. Something I never did, even with all the history I showed you. That is a blessing.”
Sanders also shared some behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot on his IG page.
During his interview for the famed sports publication, Sanders touched on why it’s so important for him to help elevate HBCU sports. He said,
“Anything you touch you have to have an effect on if you’re that kind of person. It is my objective not to just come to Jackson State and touch Jackson State, but to touch everything nearby.”
Congratulations to Deion Sanders and his team!
