Dennis Rodman Discouraged By The U.S. From Going To Russia To Help Brittney Griner
It seems like Dennis Rodman has decided to cancel his trip to Russia.

On Monday (Aug. 22) the United States government strongly warned former NBA player Dennis Rodman from traveling to Russia to help WNBA’s Brittney Griner being released from her detainment. Dennis Rodman had intentions on flying to Russia to help negotiate Brittney Griner’s nine year sentence, however, he changed his mind on his plans.

State Department spokesperson, Ned Prince, discussed his opinion on the five-time NBA champion traveling to Russia:
“He would not be traveling on behalf of the U.S. government.”
Ned Prince added:
“We believe that anything other than negotiating further through the established channel is likely to complicate and hinder those release efforts.”
As previously reported, Rodman announced last week that he planned on traveling to Russia to help Brittney Griner. He said:
“I got permission to go to Russia to help that girl.”
On Saturday (Aug. 20) the 61-year-old added:
“I’m trying to go this week.”

Reports state that United States President Joe Biden is working on negotiations for Griner following the backlash received after the government made plans to trade a Russian arms dealer for the WNBA star. Rodman believes he can do what it takes to help Giner as well. Griner has been behind bars in Russia since February after she was found guilty on drug charges earlier this month and sentenced to nine years in prison after authorities found vape cartridges containing hashish oil.
