Brett Favre — ‘Welfare Queen’s’ Charity Allegedly Gave Money for Kids W/ Cancer to University of Southern Mississippi While He Sought Millions to Build Volleyball Facility at the School

Brett Favre is at the center of yet another debate regarding his handling of money for those in need and this time, it was children.

Currently, the Mississippi Department of Human Services is suing the former NFL quarterback and “welfare queen” for allegedly “squandering” more than $20 million from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. It has now come to light that between 2018 and 2020, the Favre 4 Hope charity, which is supported by public donations, gave more than $130,000 to the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation.

The funding was initially donated to his organization to benefit kids and cancer sufferers.

According to the website’s description of the charity,

“In 1995, Brett and Deanna Favre founded the Favre 4 Hope Foundation to provide financial assistance to 501(c)3 agencies that provide services to underserved and disabled children in Mississippi and Wisconsin.”

It adds,

“In 2005, after Deanna completed her treatment for breast cancer, the Foundation extended their mission statement to include organizations providing financial aid for breast cancer patients.”

USM’s Athletic Foundation allegedly received $60,000 from Favre 4 Hope in 2018, while the charity’s other recipients received $10,000 each. The Special Olympics of Mississippi received $11,000 in 2019, which was the second-highest donation in 2019, trailing only the behind the athletic foundation’s $46,817 total. In 2020, the USM Athletic Foundation was the only group to receive more than $10,000 through Favre 4 Hope, earning $26,175 in total.

The contributions all happened at the same time Brett Favre allegedly tried to get $5 million from Mississippi’s welfare fund, which is intended for the state’s most vulnerable residents, to create a volleyball facility for the university.

In response to the hefty donations to USM, Favre’s attorney Bud Holmes said,

“He has been very generous to Southern Miss since he played ball there.”

He added,

“Those particular things [the donations in question] I don’t know, but I know he has always given back, something most athletes don’t do.”

Brett Favre attended USM before moving on to play professional football in the league. His daughter was also a volleyball player there at the time, which is perhaps why he was so keen to invest millions in its volleyball facility.

As previously reported, Favre is now suffering professionally as a result of the welfare fraud allegations, with his show The SiriusXM Blitz With Brett Favre and Bruce Murray being placed on hold for the time being.
