Sonya Curry — Mother of Steph Curry — Shares She Considered Having An Abortion While Pregnant w/ The NBA Star

It’s no doubt that Sonya Curry loves her son, Steph Curry, but she has shared some pretty shocking news.

During a recent podcast appearance, the mother of the Golden State Warriors star shared that she once thought about aborting him. The discussion takes place at a time when women’s freedom of choice is under attack, particularly in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to reverse Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that gave women the right to an abortion under the federal constitution.

Sonya Curry shared,

“Here’s this decision I made in this point, and look at the blessing that he has become. I just thank God for that, and I say to God that it was meant to be and to not carry judgement. You don’t have to carry a lot of judgement forever. Give ourselves some grace in making the decision with what we had to make the decision with when we made it.”

However, Sonya Curry was ultimately relieved that she decided against the procedure.

During the podcast interview, she said,

“But, the simple fact that people are having to make this decision every single day, every second of the day out there, that we’ll never know about. For me to be able to share that story for people to know, one, so many people are struggling with it, and it’s OK. It’s OK that you are struggling with it. Two, the decision that I made to keep him at that point is also counter with the decision that I made to not carry through with the previous pregnancy.”

The issue of reproductive rights is an important one for everyone, not just women. While Sonya decided to keep Steph Curry, she believes that everyone has the freedom to make their own decisions and supports others in doing the same.

Sonya and her estranged husband Dell are also parents to Brooklyn Nets athlete Seth Curry and former Elon Phoenix college volleyball player Sydel Curry.
