‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Wins Oscar For Best Costume Design, Ruth E. Carter Makes History As First Black Woman To Win Multiple Oscars In Any Category
Famed costume designer Ruth E. Carter has made major history!
Tonight (Mar. 12) at the 95th Academy Awards Ruth E. Carter took home the Oscar for “Best Costume Design” due to her amazing work on the film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” This isn’t the first time that Ruth E. Carter has won this prestigious honor. In 2019 she won the same award – becoming the first Black person to do so – for the first “Black Panther” film. According to reports, Ruth E. Carter is the first Black woman to win two Oscars.

During her speech, she thanked the Academy and the film’s director Ryan Coogler. She also asked Chadwick Boseman – who starred in the first “Black Panther” – to watch over her mother who recently passed away at the age of 101.

She said,
“Thank you to the Academy for recognizing the superhero that is a Black woman. She endure, she loves, she overcomes, she is every woman in this film. She is my mother. This past week, Mable Carter became an ancestor. This film prepared me for this moment.”
She continued,
“Chadwick, please take care of Mom. Ryan Coogler, Nate Moore, thank you both for your vision. Together, we are reshaping how culture is represented. The Marvel family, Kevin Feige, Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito and their arsenal of genius, thank you. I share this with many dedicated artists whose hands and hearts helped manifest the costumes of Wakanda and Talokan. This is for my mother. She was 101.”
As you may recall, Chadwick Boseman, unfortunately, passed away following a private battle with colon cancer in 2020.
Congratulations to Ruth E. Carter! Send her positive words of encouragement in the comment section.
