Track Star Sha’Carri Richardson Slams The ESPY Awards For Not Inviting Her This Year, Says They Extended An Invite When Her Life Was In ‘Shambles’
Sha’Carri Richardson isn’t too pleased with the ESPY Awards.
On Wednesday (July 12), while the who’s who of sports attended the ESPY Awards, track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson took to social media and revealed that she was not invited to the event.
Sha’Carri wrote:
“The ESPYS invited me when my life was in shambles as if I was a charity case. The disrespect that track & field receives in the USA alone is nasty. Half of the athletes there now could not do what we do on our WORST day. #espys”

Richardson – who attended the 2021 ESPY Awards following her suspension from the Olympics – also took the time to highlight the disadvantages track and field stars face in the sports world.
She said,
“Track&Field is not like other sports especially in America. The NBA, NFL have organizations to HELP their athletes, not exploit them. Y’all have no idea how many track athletes that don’t even have a base salary , there are some athletes that literally sign contracts for CLOTHES!”

Sha’Carri recently made headlines for advancing to the 2023 World Championships after winning her first title at the 2023 United States Track and Field Championships on July 7. She earned the victory with a time of 10.82 seconds in the 100-meter race and secured her spot in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

In addition to her big win, Sha’Carri shocked fans when she made the bold move to remove her iconic orange wig right before the race. After the race, the track star explained the deeper meaning behind her decision to remove her wig.
She explained,
“I wanted to show you guys that I’m still that girl, but I’m better. I’m still that girl, but I’m stronger. I’m still that girl, but I’m wiser.”
