According to a report from RadarOnline, the ex-NFL player hasn’t faced any disciplinary action (to date) while behind bars at the Cook County Jail. For those who may need a refresher, In October 2023, Sergio was charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a body in connection to the death of his 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Simmons-Brown.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed Myrtle died from blunt force trauma. Her body was discovered near a creek behind her suburban Chicago home in September after police were notified that Myrtle and her son were missing.
Sergio was found in Mexico and eventually extradited to Illinois. The 35-year-old pleaded not guilty and his next hearing is set for March 7.
Update #1: (Oct. 11, 2023): Sergio Brown has finally been arrested.
As previously reported, last month the ex-NFL player made headlines for disappearing around the same time his mother — Myrtle Brown — was found dead. Reportedly, the body of the 73-year-old was discovered by a creek behind her home in Maywood after concerned family members informed authorities that they could not find the woman or her son, Sergio. The manner of death was ruled a homicide once it was determined Myrtle died from injuries related to an assault.
The public soon learned that Sergio had taken off to Mexico. In a bizarre video shared online, the 35-year-old claimed he thought his mom was “on vacation in Sinaloa.” He added,
“That’s fake news – she was tired. If you want to come to me, the Maywood police got give me money…FBI had to do it, they got the power to do some sh*t like that.”
According to new reports, yesterday (Oct. 10) Sergio was deported from Mexico and taken into custody near San Diego. It’s reported he’ll soon be transferred back to the Chicago area, where his mother’s death occurred.
