Meek Mill Vows To Help Philadelphia Mayor w/ Education & Gun Violence Efforts Following Tragic Shooting That Left 8 Teens Injured, 1 In Critical Condition

Rapper Meek Mill wants to lend a hand in helping his hometown become safer for its youth.

Following a recent shooting that left 8 children injured, the South Philadelphia native took to social media to express his desire to assist the Mayor’s efforts to prevent gun violence.

Reacting to Philly Mayor Cherlle Parker’s impassioned press conference in light of the shooting, Meek Mill, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, wrote to his X account (formerly Twitter):

“I wanna help her especially with education … I have dreams of working with the Yas foundation with dream chasers academy to offer these kids resources with technology and to travel outside of that environment to understand life! I’m in on reform ima join helping with education!”

In prior posts, Meek shared several stories about the gunfire and spoke about the nature of growing up in a violent environment. In one post, the Dream Chasers Records founder wrote:

“If you black or brown talk about this … it’s kids that’s gonna pick up guns because they think they gonna die b4 they turn 21 for a gun license! You will go from Xbox to Glock because of your environment … and get locked up for trying to survive it it’s terrible!”

Adding in another:

“Growing up around killers that won’t reason with you before they kill you is like trying to negotiate with a terrorist … in our city we used to death and currently going through something with everybody killing everybody it’s hard to focus or prosper! DO NOT FOLLOW THE HEATHENS!”

The shooting that Meek has been referring to took place in Philadelphia yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, March 6th). Reports state that at least 8 high school students were struck by bullets in the arms, legs, torso, and upper body after gunmen opened fire as they were waiting to take a transit bus home from school. According to the city’s police commissioner, three armed assailants got out of a car around the corner around 3 p.m. and let off at least 30 shots before fleeing the scene. The students injured range from ages 15 to 17, and one 16-year-old is in critical condition after being shot nine times.

Mayor Parker spoke out in the incident’s aftermath, warning criminals that they will not scare officials into compliance, vehemently stating:

“Enough is enough…we will not be held hostage…we will use every legal tool in the toolbox to ensure the public health and safety of the people of our city…we are going to ensure that every partner that we have, every resource that we need to solve this crime, to ensure that those who are responsible are held accountable, we’re going to make sure that we do that.”

One report notes that three other school-aged children were caught in gunfire in the city two days before the recent shooting, leaving one of them dead. At the time of this writing, no suspects have been taken into custody.
