Mike Tyson’s Peers Show Concern About His Upcoming Fight With Jake Paul: ‘I Don’t Want The Last Thing I Remember Of Him Is Him Getting Knocked Out By A YouTuber’
As the highly talked about boxing match between legend, Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul nears, some are showing concern about the upcoming fight. The stakes are high as it is said that this is not an exhibition match. Instead, because it has been commissioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, the July 20 faceoff has been deemed as a professional melee.
Despite Mike Tyson’s 50-6 record with 44 knockouts, there is concern among the older boxer’s peers. The 57-year-old has posted his workouts as well as his sparring practices, showing his fans that he still has what it takes to step into the ring and win. Former champion Deontay Wilder sees a different story. In a recent interview with Sportsbook Review, he said,
“I don’t want the last thing I remember of him is him getting knocked out by a YouTuber. The last thing you do, that’s what people remember you by.”
Deontay Wilder cited his age and Mike Tyson being non-active in boxing for two decades.
“I think it’s bad the commission has licensed Mike Tyson, because he hasn’t been active in 20 years, so they should not just license him because of who he is, that’s how people get hurt – God forbid he gets hurt.”
Tyson is ready to quiet down any concerns. In a May 7 X post, Tyson shared footage of him sparring and wrote,
” Ready or not here I come.”

Jake Paul is a powerful puncher in the ring. The polarizing YouTuber turned boxer, 27, has a 9-1 career record with six knockouts. Although Jake Paul has only fought a mix of celebrities and mid-level fighters, he has gained some respect in the sport as a talented fighter.
Deontay Wilder goes on to say,
“People can get hit in the wrong place and at the wrong time, there’s lots of examples where guys have been hit into a coma. It’s easy to do. He’s too old for this. At the end of the day, no one gives a f*ck about Mike.”
Wilder says he does not want to see the upcoming fight, hoping it doesn’t become a “clown show.” However; not all of Tyson’s peers are worried about the cultural figure. Lennox Lewis, Tyson’s former opponent, has no worries about Tyson coming out as the winner. In an interview, Lennox Lewis told The Guardian,
“I’m concerned for Jake Paul. Tyson still knows how to punch, as you can see when he’s hitting a bag. If Jake Paul gets hit by one of those punches, he’s going to feel it. I know Jake Paul doesn’t want to get hit.”
According to Lennox Lewis, Paul does not have the skills to deal with Tyson’s experience.
“I saw Mike a couple of weeks ago and he looked good. He was walking around without a shirt and showing off his body so he’s getting ready.”
All eyes will be on Tyson as the fight’s press tour begins today (Monday, May 13) at the Apollo Theater in New York City.
