Lupita Nyong’o Reflects On Chadwick Boseman’s Passing As She Opens Up About Playing A Terminal Cancer Patient In Latest Film
In her latest role as a cancer patient in A Quiet Place: Day One, Lupita Nyong’o found herself deeply affected by personal memories of Chadwick Boseman’s battle with cancer.
The Oscar-winning actress, known for her captivating performances, recently shared in an interview that portraying Sam, a character facing terminal illness during an alien invasion, deeply resonated with her own experiences and emotions:
“It was daunting to have to go there, psychologically and emotionally … Sam is facing mortality head-on, even before the apocalypse begins, and her life is slipping away.”

Lupita Nyong’o, 41, acknowledged that the loss of actor and friend Chadwick Boseman, who passed away from colon cancer at age 43 in 2020, added a profound layer of emotion to her performance:
“I had just experienced the death of Chadwick Boseman, which shook me to my core … I definitely was thinking about that a lot.”
Lupita Nyong’o and Chadwick Boseman forged a close connection while working together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, notably in the film Black Panther. Nyong’o played Nakia, a Wakandan spy and love interest of Boseman’s T’Challa.

While speaking about Boseman, Lupita also emphasized the impact of mortality on life’s priorities:
“It’s really important to be reminded of our mortality, because then we live life just a little more intentionally … When we think we have all the time in the world, we can really take people and experiences for granted.”
