Denzel Washington Clarifies ‘Gladiator Il’ Same-Sex Kiss Claim After Director Ridley Scott Denies It
Denzel Washington is addressing his claim about a same-sex kiss in Gladiator II, after director Ridley Scott shut it down.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the highly anticipated Gladiator sequel, Denzel clarified his earlier comments, calling the media reaction “much ado about nothing.” Initially, he said he kissed his male scene partner, but the kiss was cut because the creative team was “chicken.”
However, Denzel softened his stance, now explaining that he only gave his scene partner a “peck” on the hand, and the situation was blown out of proportion.
Ridley Scott rejected the idea, calling Denzel’s version “bulls***.” He added,
“They never did. They acted the moment – it didn’t happen.”

An off-camera voice also assured Ridley that they “went back and looked at the film,” confirming there was never a kiss to cut.
Despite the controversy, Gladiator II is gearing up for a major release, though it’s up against stiff competition from the Wicked movie.
