Drake — UMG Files Motion To Dismiss Drake’s Texas Petition That Accuses Company Of Streaming Collusion
Drake’s legal battle with Universal Music Group is ramping up.
The rapper first made headlines when he filed a petition in New York, which he later withdrew and replaced with a lawsuit against UMG and Spotify. His goal? To examine streaming data and accuse the companies of colluding to inflate streams for Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, “Not Like Us.”
Now, Drake has filed a separate petition in Texas, continuing his legal pursuit. In response, UMG has filed a 144-page motion to dismiss the Texas petition, calling Drake’s actions “retaliatory” and asking the court to cover their legal fees.
This motion comes just days before a scheduled hearing on January 28 in Bexar County, Texas, and follows Drake’s recent move to Texas, which he made public in August 2024.
