Will Smith Almost Backed Out Of ‘Hitch’ 3 Days Before Filming, Director Reveals
In a new interview with *Business Insider*, “Hitch” director Andy Tennant reflected on his complex relationship with Will Smith during the making of the 2005 romantic comedy.
Tennant revealed that Will Smith “tried to back out three days before shooting,” wanting to rework the script further. “It was madness,” Tennant recalled, noting the tension between their visions for the film.
Despite the difficulties, the movie became a massive success, grossing $371.6 million globally.

Tennant also revealed that he submitted a proposal for a “Hitch” sequel, but recently learned that Will Smith is now developing one without him. “I just found out about it three months ago,” Tennant shared, expressing disappointment. “I have never heard from him since.”
Despite the fallout, Tennant emphasized that he has “nothing against Will,” acknowledging the incredible journey they had with the film.
