Paige Bueckers says she felt a spiritual connection to Kobe and Gianna Bryant while leading UConn to a historic championship win.
During a postgame interview, Paige reflected on the emotional significance of the moment, saying,
“There have been times this whole weekend and throughout the tournament that God has really shown himself, and my mom staying in room 824, both of Kobe’s numbers. Stuff like that.”
She continued,
“It’s been a very blessed year, win or lose. I just feel like God’s presence has been really showing out… I feel like a lot of that too is Kobe’s watching over us, Gigi’s watching over us.”

Gigi Bryant, who tragically passed away with her father, Kobe Bryant, in 2020, would’ve turned 19 on May 1. Her love for basketball and dream of playing at UConn were well known.
Vanessa Bryant also shared a heartfelt tribute to Paige and the team after their win, writing, “Gigi would’ve loved being there with you.”
The Huskies secured their 12th national title with an 82-59 victory over South Carolina.
