Multiple D.C. Police Officers Face Investigation Over Alleged PPP Loan Fraud

D.C. Police officers are under investigation for allegedly securing fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program loans, raising questions about the transparency of the D.C. government.

The investigation, first reported by 7News I-Team in March, was confirmed by MPD this week. Paris Lewbel, Deputy Director of Communications for the Metropolitan Police Department, stated,

“MPD’s Internal Affairs Division is currently investigating allegations involving several members related to fraudulent PPP loans. While MPD does not comment on ongoing internal investigations, we can confirm that, at this time, no member connected to these current investigations has been terminated.”

This follows high-profile cases involving former officers. Owen Grigsby pled guilty to obtaining loans through false information and received two years of probation, while Kalynn Fields pled guilty to wire fraud after stealing $35,000 in COVID-19 loans.

The investigation has sparked concerns about the lack of transparency, as key details were only revealed after months of media inquiries.
