In a rare instance, Sinners reportedly earned a staggering $45 million in its second weekend of release, with ticket sales falling only 6% from its $48 million opening — making it one of the few films with a sophomore weekend nearly matching its debut.
Reports note that the feat is especially impressive for horror, as films in the genre are typically synonymous with sharp declines after opening weekend.
In total, the Ryan Coogler-directed flick has earned $122.5 million domestically and $161.6 million globally. With a budget of $90 million, it’s crushing its initial $35 million projection.
The movie has been buzzing with strong word-of-mouth and critical acclaim since its release. It follows twin brothers who confront a dormant evil when they return to their hometown in Mississippi, in a saga set during the Jim Crow era of the 1930s.
Are you surprised Sinners is continuing to perform so well?
