Trump’s Transgender Military Ban Backed By Supreme Court Amid Ongoing Legal Battle
The Supreme Court is letting Donald Trump’s ban on transgender military service go into effect… for now.
On Tuesday (May 6), the justices granted an emergency request from the Donald Trump administration to lift a nationwide injunction blocking the policy while court battles continue. The three liberal justices dissented.
The ban, first announced in February, “generally disqualifies from military service individuals who have gender dysphoria or have undergone medical interventions.” The Donald Trump admin claims it’s about “military effectiveness and lethality.”
A federal judge in Washington state blocked the policy back in March, calling it “not an especially close question.” The San Francisco-based 9th Circuit declined to pause that order, so the Trump team went to SCOTUS.
