New York City Named Happiest City In The U.S., Ranks #17 On Global Happy City Index
In what may come as a surprise, New York City has officially been named the happiest city in the U.S.
According to the Institute for Quality of Life’s annual Happy City Index, NYC ranked No. 17 among cities worldwide, making it the highest-ranking city in the United States. The Big Apple reportedly scored high in economic growth, education, and mobility, with the report praising its booming GDP, widespread digital skills, and green-friendly public transit system.

With 40% of commuters using sustainable options and a strong patent rate, the East Coast city was even described as an “intellectual and technological powerhouse.” But here’s the twist: despite all the glowing stats, only 30% of actual New Yorkers say they’re satisfied with their quality of life, according to a local survey.
Globally, NYC came in at No. 17 overall, trailing behind cities like Copenhagen, Denmark (No. 1), Vancouver, Canada (No. 11), and Paris, France (No. 13). The next happiest U.S. city? Minneapolis at No. 30.
Would you have guessed NYC topped the U.S. list for happiest cities?
