Martha Stewart Seemingly Shades Meghan Markle’s Lifestyle Brand, Questions Her ‘Authenticity’: ‘Hope She Knows What She’s Talking About’
Martha Stewart doesn’t seem overly impressed with Meghan Markle’s latest venture into the lifestyle space.
In a recent interview with Yahoo, the 83-year-old lifestyle icon was asked about the Duchess of Sussex’s As Ever brand. Her response came with a hint of shade, saying: “Meghan, I don’t really know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about.”
She followed that up with a more general remark about what it takes to succeed in the industry, stating: “Authenticity, to me, is everything. And to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important.”

While Stewart offered lukewarm commentary on Meghan, she was much more glowing in her praise of Gwyneth Paltrow and her Goop brand, which launched in 2008.
“Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses… She’s admired. She won an Oscar, for heaven’s sake, as an actress! She’s pretty powerful.”
Still, Martha made it clear she isn’t threatened by either woman’s growing influence in the lifestyle space. The cookbook author added that she wishes both Meghan and Gwyneth “good luck” in their business ventures and said she doesn’t “mind” having successors in the industry.
