Television lost one of its most unforgettable character actors this week.
Isiah Whitlock Jr., the beloved performer who brought crooked state senator Clay Davis to life on “The Wire,” has died at age 71, Variety confirmed. The actor passed away Tuesday in New York.
His manager, Brian Liebman, announced the news stating: “It is with tremendous sadness that I share the passing of my dear friend and client Isiah Whitlock Jr. If you knew him — you loved him. A brilliant actor and even better person. May his memory forever be a blessing. Our hearts are so broken. He will be very, very missed.”
Born in Indiana, Whitlock became a familiar face in Spike Lee films including “BlacKkKlansman,” “Da 5 Bloods,” “Chi-Raq*” and “25th Hour.” He later appeared on “Veep” as Secretary of Defense George Maddox.
