[Video] Is Oprah Winfrey A Mean Girl? Toni Braxton Says She Was Shockingly Mean During Interview
In an upcoming TV teaser, Oprah Winfrey fans might be shocked to know that someone has called her ‘mean’. On an upcoming episode of VH1’s Behind the Music, 45-year-old Toni Braxton reveals a surprising account of a 1998 interview with the TV titan. If you’ll recall, Toni came on the show to discuss her financial struggles in the industry, along with her highly publicized bankruptcy. And while Toni expected Oprah to welcome her with open TV warms, she says the opposite happened.
She was so frickin’ mean to me, I was in shock. She said ‘I hear you have Gucci flatware; I’m Oprah Winfrey and I don’t have Gucci flatware’…You didn’t have Gucci flatware because you didn’t wanna buy it; it’s not because you couldn’t afford it.

I remember that interview. It felt like Oprah wanted her to explain her lifestyle and justify it to the world. I didn’t think it was fair. There was even talk about the #count in her sheets.
I remember even at a time where she married Keri Lewis. This heffa was on the comeback requesting wedding gifts from Tiffany and Co. Huh? Boo-boo you can’t afford it and neither can your guests. Pay some bills. She squandered millions made in Las Vegas and even with high priced medical care she could’ve survived. I cannot wrap my mind around this one to make sense. Stop pointing the finger. Where was Tamar and Vince claiming to discover GaGa? Maybe they’ll let her borrow a few dollars for groceries. Her entire fam is now making money from the name SHE made famous but has nothing to show for it.

She’s talking about an old interview, so what are you talking about? And she actually has/is making money again. She’s still doing shows and obviously the reality show they do is bringing in money. What are you talking about?
I imagine Oprah was taking the stance of… are you living beyond your means? Do you need gucci flatware and if you do… how is it helping you out of this bankruptcy.
Anyone should be a little “mean” to someone with so much potential and the opportunity to be maximize their potential who squanders their money on things.
I don’t think its fair to judge Toni. Yes Toni agreed to be on Oprah’s show, so she kind of opened herself up for harsh questions to be asked. But there’s a TON of people who live beyond their means. Even basic people. To single out Toni is wrong. Every one needs to control their spending because in this economy it might be here today and gone tomorrow!
I agree with Dubb-B. Ebonee, you really need to start paying attention to what’s going on and being said. You just jumped out a plane with no parachute! Why are you going so hard on the family. Stop hating on them!!
Ebonee, what the hell are you talking about “high priced medical care,”. You make it seem like she was shopping for healthcare and stayed in the Gucci aisle too long. I remember that email and when Toni walked on set, one of the 1st things Oprah stated was that Toni didn’t look as if she was suffering. (I guess she should have crawled in crying) Sometimes O is a hit and often she misses. With Toni she missed. She was more focused on setting her straight and offering advise then hearing her story. Go Toni, still loving you girl.
