Celebrity Thug Life :: Ja Rule Gets Into Trouble In Jail

For his 36th birthday last week, rapper Ja Rule’s (real name Jeffery Atkins) team surprised him with two radio interviews on Sirius XM and Kiss-FM. Atkins is currently serving a four year sentence for tax evasion and illegal weapons possession at the Mid-State Correction facility, so an interview for his fans would have been the perfect gift right? Wrong! Apparently, it’s against the rules for inmates to conduct interviews. As a result, Atkins is now facing disciplinary action. He has been punished with a seven day work detail. His representative, Melanie Bonvicino, has since come to his defense claiming that she orchestrated the whole thing and insisting Atkins, “had no prior knowledge.” In addition, she is asking for leniency for her client seeing as he is a “model prisoner,” obtaining his GED and taking college courses. Bonvicino however also adds that these events will have no bearing on Atkins’ expected 2013 album. She confirmed in an interview with MTV,
“There will be no changes at this time, we had a record coming out, and Ja Rule obviously is really all about his fans and as such it was his birthday and we had a record to promote, so this is his usual here.”
